BROSSARD, Que. — The Montreal Canadiens have trimmed their training camp roster down to 31 players (18 forwards, 10 defencemen, three goaltenders).
Forwards Gabriel Dumont, Christian Thomas and Bud Holloway, and defencemen Morgan Ellis must all pass through waivers before joining the St. John’s IceCaps of the American Hockey League.
Forwards Michael McCarron, Jeremy Gregoire and Daniel Carr, and defencemen Joel Hanley and Darren Dietz have also been sent down to the IceCaps.
Among the hopefuls still at camp are forwards Charles Hudon, Sven Andrighetto and Jacob De La Rose, and defencemen Mark Barberio and Jarred Tinordi.
Defenceman Noah Juulsen, the Canadiens’ first-round pick in 2015 returned to practice Sunday after missing all of camp with a concussion.
Forward Nikita Scherbak, who was selected 26th overall by Montreal at the 2014 draft, also took part in practice Sunday after missing the last week with an ankle injury.
The Canadiens (1-1-2) will host the Pittsburgh Penguins (2-2-0) on Monday at the new Videotron Centre in Quebec City.
