After the Los Angeles Kings lost to the Edmonton Oilers in regulation on Tuesday night, that gave Vancouver the in. Los Angeles is unable to catch the Canucks in the playoffs and could be eliminated from post-season contention with a loss to Calgary on Thursday.
The Canucks will return to the playoffs for the fifth time in the last six years after missing out last season under head coach John Tortorella.
Vancouver remains second in the West Division with 97 points, two points clear of the Calgary Flames with two games remaining on the schedule.
