Former Vancouver Canucks great Mattias Ohlund will be inducted into the team’s Ring of Honour prior to their game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday.

The Canucks announced their plans to honour one of the best defencemen in team history earlier this month.

The native of Pitea, Sweden played in 13 NHL seasons (11 with the Canucks, two with the Lightning) scoring 343 points (93 goals, 250 assists) in 909 games while averaging a whopping 24:16 of ice-time per-game throughout his career.

Ohlund was known just as much for the impact he made off the ice as he did on it and was a big part of his team’s leadership groups in both Vancouver and Tampa Bay.

The 40-year-old will join Canucks’ legends Orland Kurtenbach, Kirk McLean, Thomas Gradin, Harold Snepsts, and Pat Quinn in the Canucks’ Ring of Honour in Rogers Arena.
