Canucks’ Jake Virtanen out for a month with fractured rib

Watch as Ryan Getzlaf hits Jake Virtanen with a questionable hit.

Vancouver Canucks winger Jake Virtanen will miss the next month of action while dealing with a fractured rib, head coach Travis Green told reporters Monday.

Green also provided an update on goaltender Thatcher Demko and defender Alex Edler — who are both skating on their own — and Chris Tanev, who’s scheduled to see a doctor Monday.

The 22-year-old Virtanen has enjoyed a career year thus far in Vancouver, posting personal-best marks of 12 goals and 22 points through 58 games.

The club does have one new addition who can help fill the void left by Virtanen’s absence, as the team recently acquired Ryan Spooner from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Sam Gagner.
