Vancouver Canucks prospect Jonathan Dahlen is heading home to Sweden to further his development.
Timra IK, the team he has played for over the past few seasons, announced on Tuesday that he’s returning to the club.
The Canucks announced the decision to reassign Dahlen on Friday, saying the 19-year-old forward will suit up in the Swedish Hockey League for the 2017-18 season rather than in the AHL with the Utica Comets.
Timra IK is in the Allsvenskan, which is Sweden’s second-tier league. Dahlen registered 25 goals and 19 assists for 44 points in 45 games with Timra in 2016-17.
Dahlen is one of the most highly anticipated prospects in the Canucks’ system, known for his dynamic playmaking and shiftiness. The Canucks landed him in the trade that saw veteran Alex Burrows head to the Ottawa Senators in February, and signed him to an entry-level deal in April. He was drafted in the second round (42nd overall) by the Senators in 2016.
