The Vancouver Canucks are building up depth for next season, signing Swedish forward Anton Rodin to a one-year, one-way deal on Tuesday.
Rodin’s contract is for the 2016-17 season, in which he will earn $950,000, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.
The 5-foot-11 forward scored 16 goals with 21 assists in 33 games this season for Brynas IF Gavle of the Swedish Hockey League and was recently named as the league’s most valuable player, despite missing significant time with an injury.
Rodin, 25, has spent the past three seasons in Sweden after being drafted by Vancouver in the second round (53rd overall) in the 2009 NHL Draft. Prior to playing in the Swedish league, Rodin spent two seasons with the Chicago Wolves, the Canucks’ AHL affiliate, from 2011-13 where he racked up 14 goals and 27 assists in 111 games.
The Stockholm native is expected to be on the Canucks’ NHL roster next season.
