Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin is listed as day-to-day with a lower body injury and will miss Thursday’s game against the Minnesota Wild.
The team made the announcement Thursday evening.
The exact nature of the injury is unknown, but it’s believed Ovechkin suffered it during Tuesday’s 5-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets, in which he scored two goals and was the game’s first star.
The 29-year-old currently leads the NHL in goals with 43 and is tied with teammate Nicklas Backstrom for the league lead in points with 67.
Prior to Thursday, Ovechkin had dressed in 96 consecutive games and hadn’t missed a game since Jan. 24, 2014.
