Capitals refute report Ovechkin could miss World Cup

A Washington Capitals representative has denied a report out of Russia suggesting Alex Ovechkin is currently dealing with a lower-body injury that could throw his status for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey into doubt.

Capitals public relations representative Sergey Kocharov refuted a reports from Russia’s Sport-Express and TASS on Tuesday, indicating that he spoke with the NHL’s reigning Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy winner and he continues to prepare for the September tournament.

The three-time Hart Memorial Trophy winner took to his Instagram account to post a video of himself taking shots and skating. Ovechkin included a caption which, loosely translated, says he’s ready.
