Chicago signs van Riemsdyk to two-year extension

Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Trevor van Riemsdyk will miss "about a month" with an upper-body injury, the team announced Saturday.

The Chicago Blackhawks have signed Trevor van Riemsdyk to a one-way, two-year extension.

The $1.65 million contract carries a cap hit of $825,000 for 2016-17 and 2017-18.

The undrafted defenceman joined Chicago as a free agent prior to the 2014-15 season, but played just 18 regular season games with the Blackhawks due to injury. He returned in time to help the team in the Stanley Cup Final.
