Sens’ Anderson day-to-day with ankle sprain

The injury bug has bitten the Ottawa Senators once again, as goalie Craig Anderson was helped off the ice after New York Rangers forward Chris Kreider crashed into him during the third period of the Senators’ win over the Rangers Thursday.

Anderson’s leg twisted underneath him and at the time it looked as though some serious damage could have been done to his knee. However, luckily for Sens fans Anderson only suffered a sprained right ankle and is listed as day-to-day.

The 31-year-old American had made 21 saves without allowing a goal before suffering the injury.

Backup netminder Ben Bishop came in as relief and although he allowed two goals in the third period, the Senators went on to win the game 3-2 in a shootout.

Anderson was in good spirits following the game despite the injury.

Heading into Thursday’s game Anderson was 8-4-2 this season with a 1.57 goals against average and a .950 save percentage.

The Sens are also currently without star defenceman Erik Karlsson and top centre Jason Spezza who are both dealing with long-term injuries.

It was announced after the game that Robin Lehner will be recalled from the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League. Lehner will join the Sens Friday and be available for Saturday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
