After a long wait, Cody Franson has a new home.

The veteran defenceman reached a two-year deal with the Buffalo Sabres, the club announced Thursday morning.

Franson, 28, was considered to be one of the top-rated defencemen available when free agency kicked off on July 1, but it took a while for a market to develop for the B.C. native.

He spent the 2014-15 season with the Nashville Predators and Toronto Maple Leafs, registering seven goals and 29 assists in 78 games before adding two assists in five playoff games.

Franson has recorded 35 goals, 134 assists and 134 penalty minutes in 400 career NHL games with the Maple Leafs and Predators.

He was originally selected by Nashville in the third round (79th overall) of the 2005 NHL Draft.
