Coyotes place NHL All-Star vote leader on waivers

Watch as John Scott and Steve Downie of the Arizona Coyotes try heat the tension up between the Coyotes and the Buffalo Sabres.

It’s not every day you get a chance to pluck a future NHL all-star off waivers.

The Arizona Coyotes placed John Scott on waivers Friday. Scott leads all players in fan voting for the 2016 NHL All-Star Game.

Scott has one assist in nine games this season.

The 33-year-old pugilist is hardly the player the NHL had in mind when it announced the 2016 All-Star Game in Nashville would be a 3-on-3 mini tournament. An enthusiastic effort, driven by a social media campaign, has pushed Scott to the top of the leaderboard in fan voting.

The other 29 teams in the league have until noon ET Saturday to claim Scott.
