Craig Anderson furious after historically bad period

Craig Anderson showed that he is clearly upset with his teams play in front of him when he left the ice very quickly at the end of the first period.

The Ottawa Senators had a terrible start against the Montreal Canadiens Saturday night. How terrible? It was the most shots the Senators franchise has allowed in one period in franchise history.

And remember, this is a franchise that won only 10 games in 1992-93.

According to the NHL stats sheet, the Senators were actually outshot 27-8 in the first period in Montreal Saturday night and trailed 2-0. It could have been much worse if not for Craig Anderson, who seemed to be livid at his teammates for the display in front of him. He stormed off the ice at the end of the period, shortly after the Senators allowed Max Pacioretty to walk in alone.

To illustrate just how far behind the Senators were to the Canadiens, take a look at this event chart from war-on-ice.com, which displays the shot attempts by each team at 5-on-5.

The start to the second period wasn’t much better. The Canadiens scored less than six minutes in and then appeared to add another, which was eventually overturned. Anderson was pulled after the fourth goal, but did not return when it was reversed.
