Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby is the latest athlete to participate in the viral Ice Bucket Challenge.

Responding to a challenge from teammate Craig Adams, Crosby took part in the challenge Thursday.

Originating in Boston, the Ice Bucket Challenge went viral among Boston athletes as a means to raise awareness for Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS) and support 29-year-old former Boston College baseball captain Pete Frates, who is unable to speak and is confined to a wheelchair because of the disease.

The charitable effort has gone viral with the twitter hashtag #IceBucketChallenge and the fact that athletes doing it were challenging others to try it.
