The Dallas Stars placed forward Ray Whitney on injured reserve Saturday after the veteran suffered a lower body injury.
To make up for Whitney’s absence, the team recalled forward Reilly Smith from the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League.
The 40-year-old, who was signed by Dallas as a free agent on July 1, 2012, leads the Stars in scoring this season with six points in eight contests.
Smith, 21, is currently second in scoring with 27 points games in 38 games with the AHL Stars this season. In six NHL games this season, Smith has gone scoreless.
The Stars face the Phoenix Coyotes Saturday night.
