Defenceman Victor Mete will rejoin the Montreal Canadiens on Friday after being loaned to Team Canada for the world juniors.

There was some uncertainty about whether the Canadiens would bring Mete back to Montreal or send him to the OHL’s London Knights following the world juniors. A return to the OHL would have made Mete eligible to represent Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympics in February.

However, Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin informed Mete of the decision to return him to the big club on Saturday afternoon.

After recording four assists in 24 games for the Canadiens, Mete posted three points — including an assist in the gold-medal game — during the world juniors.
