Dennis Seidenberg to sign one-year deal with Islanders

Outside of two mistakes that cost Team Europe, Ralph Krueger felt his team was in with a chance of stealing a win from Team Canada on Tuesday. To have ended up losing however is a frustrating reality he and his players now have to overcome.

Dennis Seidenberg has agreed to terms on a deal with the New York Islanders, according to reports.

The one-year deal is worth a reported $1 million.

The 35-year-old defenceman helped Team Europe get to the World Cup of Hockey final, causing some to wonder if he and fellow UFA Christian Ehrhoff might get some NHL interest with their performances on the international stage.

“The goal is to get a deal at the end of tournament,” Seidenberg told Sportsnet’s Luke Fox on Tuesday. “I think I’m in for a contract. I think I’ve played long enough that people know what I can do and can’t do. It’s basically a showcase here. They see what I can do.”

Seidenberg spent the last seven seasons with the Boston Bruins, winning the Stanley Cup with them in 2011, and said he was “shocked” when his four-year, $16-million contract was bought out with two years remaining in June.

The veteran rearguard has 39 goals and 185 assists for 224 points in 758 career regular season NHL games.
