Wings’ Alfredsson practises in Senators sweater

Detroit Red Wings forward Daniel Alfredsson left Ottawa in effort to win his first Stanley Cup.

Breaking up is hard to do. So, apparently, is FedExing your famous free-agent acquisition a practice jersey.

Detroit Red Wings forward Daniel Alfredsson, whose departure from the Ottawa Senators was messy to say the least, was spotted Monday wearing his former club’s sweater during an informal practice session at Ottawa’s Bell Sensplex alongside current Sens players — despite leaving the team more than a month-and-a-half ago.

Was Alfie paying homage to the team he captained for so long? Needling its fans? Or did simply no one have an extra plain white practice sweater?
