Both the Florida Panthers and Detroit Red Wings’ morning skates were cancelled Tuesday due to another power outage at Joe Louis Arena.
But a little darkness didn’t prevent Florida’s Roberto Luongo from getting in his reps:
The goaltender is expected to return to action after leaving the Panthers’ 1-0 win over Carolina Wednesday with an arm injury.
Luongo has been sharp of late, posting a 2-1-1 record with a 1.92 goals-against average in his last four games.
But the Joe hasn’t been too kind to him. Provided tonight’s game is a go, Luongo will try to snap his three-game losing skid in Detroit. The goalie, then of the Vancouver Canucks, was on the dark side of an 8-3 loss the last time he visited Joe Louis, on Feb. 24, 2013.
The power outage at Joe Louis is the second in a matter of days, but this one was an area outage and not exclusive to the arena. The Wings and Canucks sat through a 34-minute delay during Sunday’s game.
Tuesday’s game, with puck drop set for 7:30 p.m., is still on.
“That’s the beauty of the Joe,” defenceman Niklas Kronwall told reporters Sunday. “It’s been around for a long time. It’s kind of the charm of it. You never know what’s going to happen.”
