Devils beef up forward depth, pick up Beau Bennett from Penguins

Beau Bennett scored two of the Pittsburgh Penguins' three goals during a 3:24 span of the third period in a 4-2 come-from-behind win against the Colorado Avalanche.

The New Jersey Devils landed forward Beau Bennett in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a 2016 third-round pick on Saturday morning.

Bennett, 24, scored six goals and six assists in 33 regular season games but missed the majority of the team’s Stanley Cup run with an injury and was a healthy scratch when he was available to play towards the end of the playoffs. He only appeared in 1 post-season game this year.

The Devils have strong familiarity with Bennett, as GM Ray Shero drafted the forward while he was working with the Penguins in the first round (20th overall) of the 2010 NHL Draft.

Bennett has suited up in 129 career games with the Penguins, scoring 16 goals and 29 assists with 32 penalty minutes.

The American will become a restricted free agent on July 1.
