Devils’ Cory Schneider out six weeks after successful surgery

Cory Schneider had to leave the game after injuring himself against the post on a save attempt.

New Jersey Devils goaltender Cory Schneider will need the next six weeks to recover after undergoing successful surgery to repair a core muscle injury on Tuesday.

Devils general manager Ray Shero announced the injury update on Thursday.

Schneider, 30, missed most of March with a lower-body injury but came back to finish the season with New Jersey. He went 26-23-6 with a 2.17 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage in 55 games this year.

The Devils also announced that forward Patrik Elias had successful surgery on his right knee and that the team would monitor his rehabilitation.

The 40-year-old is due to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
