Devils’ Elias, Schneider both undergo surgery

NEWARK, N.J. — The New Jersey Devils say forward Patrik Elias and goalie Cory Schneider had surgeries earlier this week.

The Devils say Elias had surgery on his right knee on Wednesday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. Elias, a two-time Stanley Cup winner and the team’s all-time leading scorer, missed most of last season with a knee injury. The 4-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

The Devils say Schneider had surgery for a core muscle injury on Tuesday at the Vincera Institute in Philadelphia. His recovery time is expected to be about six weeks. Schneider was 27-25-6 last season with a 2.15 goals-against average.
