Don Cherry returning to Hockey Night in Canada next season

Don Cherry hasn't been impressed with the play of the San Jose Sharks in this Stanley Cup Final, and thinks their biggest guns will need to step up more. Jones is what is keeping them in the game so far.

TORONTO — Don Cherry is returning to “Hockey Night in Canada” next season.

Rogers executive Scott Moore tells The Canadian Press that the 82-year-old Cherry has agreed to a multi-year contract.

The opinionated commentator’s current two-year deal expires at the end of the playoffs.

In 2013, Rogers signed a 12-year, $5.2-billion deal for NHL rights in Canada.

They took a ratings hit this spring, however, when no Canadian team made the playoffs.

Moore hinted there could be changes coming in the wake of the low-rated playoff run, saying “you tweak as you go.”
