The swapping of pointed Twitter witticisms between late-night talk show host Conan O’Brien (@ConanOBrien) and the Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings was resurrected last weekend.
Rewind to May 25. The Western Conference finals were in full swing when O’Brien tweeted, “The @LAKings are playing the @phoenix coyotes? I wonder which city that shouldn’t have a hockey team will win.”
The Kings’ account, known for its quick wit (relative to other NHL teams, of course), responded to the Boston native, whose show airs at 11 p.m. on TBS: “Clearly, that joke wasn’t meant for prime time.”
O’Brien dug back into his bag of Kings jokes last weekend, this time drawing a 140-characters-or-less retort from one of L.A.’s most colourful quotes, Dustin Penner:
@ConanOBrien I guess being on TBS you would know what silence sounds like. — Dustin Penner (@Dustinpenner25) July 15, 2012
