The Edmonton Oilers have trimmed their training camp roster by four players.
The team assigned goaltender Nick Ellis and forward Patrick Russell to AHL Bakersfield on Tuesday, while placing forward Ty Rattie and defenceman Dillon Simpson on waivers.
Ellis signed with Edmonton as a college free agent in 2016 after three years with Providence College.
The 23-year-old had a .918 save percentage and 2.69 goals-against average in 34 appearances with Bakersfield last season.
Russell is another college UFA signed by Edmonton in 2016, with the 24-year-old joining the Oilers system out of St. Cloud State University.
The Danish winger had eight goals and 17 points in 68 games last season with the Condors.
Rattie signed a two-way contract with the Oilers in July after being non-tendered by the St. Louis Blues, who drafted the Calgary native 32nd overall in 2011.
The 24-year-old has four goals and 10 points in 34 career NHL games.
Simpson was a fourth-round pick of the Oilers in 2011, and he made his NHL debut with the team last season, being held off the scoresheet in three contests.
The 24-year-old had three goals and 11 points in 53 AHL games last season.
Edmonton closes out its pre-season schedule with a game in Saskatoon against Carolina on Wednesday, before visiting the Canucks in Vancouver on Saturday.
