The Edmonton Oilers have hired Vaclav Burda as their director of European scouting.

It’s a role he’s held with the Ottawa Senators since 2008.

The native of Prague, Czech Republic, played professional hockey in Europe for 12 years, mostly with Sparta Praha of the Czech Elite League. He retired in 2002 after three seasons with Lulea of the Swedish Elite League.

The 44-year-old will report directly to Bob Green, the Oilers director of player personnel.
