EuroVision: Goal judge fired after bad call

EuroVision: Highlights, notes, tweets and photos from across the pond – where the lockout doesn’t quite translate

Are you like me and Brett Hull’s jack-o-lantern? Do you love a juicy goal controversy?

Well, they have them in Russia, too. Except the punishment for the guilty party seems to be dealt a bit swifter.

According to the KHL’s website, a video goal judge was “relieved of his duties for the remainder of the KHL 2012/2013 season” (read: fired) after he incorrectly told the on-ice officials that a goal had been scored during Tuesday’s game between Amur and Salavat Yulaev.

The KHL Refereeing Department studied the replay (below) and determined that the puck did not completely cross the goal line and handed out a pink slip.

Looks clear that the puck is pinned to the post, but watch for yourself:

In hindsight, Alexander Osipov’s power-play goal-that-wasn’t might seems like a moot point – Amur won the game 5-2 – but his goal did come during the second period, increasing Amur’s lead to 3-1, and may have had an effect on how the club played out the rest of the game.

ESPN2 did it, and now New York’s hockey broadcaster, MSG Networks, is jumping on the trend of carrying KHL games stateside:

Two KHL matches are on the schedule, the first being Dinamo Minsk (Evander Kane, Joe Pavelski, Pekka Rinne) versus Barys Astana (Nigel Dawes, Victor Hedman) on Friday at 1 p.m. ET, with a primetime encore presentation at 8 p.m. The second broadcast will feature Wednesday’s contest between the Ilya Kovalchuk-captained SKA St. Petersburg and Dinamo Riga.

Interestingly, both Jaromir Jagr and Scott Hartnell – linemates on last season’s edition of the Philadelphia Flyers – could both be player-owners overseas:

Should be a more productive way for Hartnell to stay in game shape than, oh, say, mechanical bull riding. Hartnell down:

In more Philadelphia Flyers news, Ruslan Fedotenko completed a hat trick Wednesday in dramatic fashion, scoring an overtime game-winner. The winger’s Slovan club beat Magnitka 4-3 in KHL action.

Watch all three goals:

Montreal Canadiens defenceman Tomas Kaberle will return to North America, reports Matias Strozyk, as his one-month deal with Kladno has expired.

In nine games, Kaberle scored one goal and added four assists.

Centre Gilbert Brule (last seen with the Phoenix Coyotes) has left the Swiss league’s Zurich Lions for “personal reasons,” according to head coach Marc Crawford. Brule’s departure leaves the door open for a big-name North American to join.

Steven Stamkos, Martin St. Louis, Dustin Brown and Loui Eriksson are among Brule’s replacements, reports TVA’s Louis Jean.

Ceske Budejovice’s roster looks like it will be ravaged if/when the NHL does get back to business:

Patrick Kane spoke to the Chicago Sun-Times Wednesday after a skate and explained his decision to join EHC Biel in Switzerland. Kane said he had offers from clubs in Russia and Sweden as well.

New York Islanders winger Michael Grabner, who has returned to his native Austria to play during the lockout, has a head start on Movember:

Another nice snipe by that beast Evgeni Malkin. Yawn:
