Typically, Evgeni Malkin’s highlights from overseas are of the impressive variety.

We’ve seen slick assists; burly, run-through-the-entire-team-and-score solo efforts; and even a sliding kick save to bail out his out-of-position goaltender.

But Wednesday brought something not so awesome.

Due to a kneeing minor, Malkin was in the box when Vityaz’s Brian Fahey scored the overtime game-winner on a power-play.

At the end of Metallurg’s 4-3 overtime loss to Vityaz, Malkin racked up more penalties by taking his frustration out on the officials:

After his introductory news conference with his lockout club, the struggling Ambri-Piotta of the Swiss A league, Canucks goaltender Cory Schneider spoke with Vancouver’s CKWX, who relayed the export’s comments through a series of tweets Thursday morning.

Schneider said leaving Vancouver has nothing to do with the possibility of an NHL season; he just needed to play games. He explained that his game wasn’t at a level he wanted it to be while practicing at the University of British Columbia and that the desperation and intensity of pro games should help him be ready when the NHL does start.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul scored his very first KHL goal, and it was a big one.

Lupul’s game-winner propelled Avtomobilist to a 6-3 victory over Dinamo Minsk, snapping basement-dwelling Avto’s 14-game losing streak.

Lupul added an assist and now has four points in six games played.

Oh, yeah, the cool kids call them "Avto."

Perhaps it was his good night’s sleep that did the trick:

Like P.K. Subban, Bobby Ryan vowed to not take some guy’s job overseas.

Unlike Subban, Ryan is now playing overseas.

Playing on a line with Anze Kopitar, the Anaheim Ducks forward scored twice in first game with Mora IK of Sweden tier-2 league.

Didn’t take the NHL stars long to find chemistry, as they each notched two points in Mora’s 5-1 victory.

Positive news out of Atlanta, where Philadelphia Flyers forward Claude Giroux was undergoing tests from the same concussion specialist that treated Sidney Crosby. Giroux was injured from a high hit while playing in the German league:

While much has been made about Crosby inching closer to a European vocation, another young champion captain who missed a portion of 2011-12 with a head injury told CSNChicago that he’s waiting for “something to push me over the edge in that direction.”

Said Jonathan Toews after Wednesday’s practice, “Maybe if it’s at the point where the NHL has the nerve to cancel the season, then that would be the tipping point right there … Until then, it’s still an uncertainty.”
