The reigning Hart Trophy winner was injured at 15:09 of the third period in Pittsburgh’s 3-1 win over the Florida Panthers Friday. Malkin was charging down the left side when he was knocked off balance by Panthers defenceman Erik Gudbranson. He crashed back first into the end boards and his head snapped backward in a whiplash motion. There was no penalty assessed on the play.
Malkin is second on the Penguins in scoring this season with 21 points in 18 games.
