Ex-WWE star Shawn Michaels ‘blesses’ Penguins’ ‘HBK’ line

David Backes, Logan Couture and Phil Kessel were key contributors in their teams making it to the Conference Finals.

Having combined for 31 points in the playoffs entering Monday’s Game 2 of the Eastern Conference final against the Tampa Bay Lightning, it’s pretty safe to say that the Pittsburgh Penguins‘ line of Carl Hagelin, Nick Bonino and Phil Kessel has dominated their competition.

But how do you think their accomplishments stack up against a three-time champion and two-time Royal Rumble winner?

WWE Hall of Famer “Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels was trending on Twitter in Pittsburgh on Monday night thanks to the further exploits of the Hagelin-Bonino-Kessel line, who combined to give Kessel his ninth goal of the post-season and improving the line’s playoff point total up to 34.

The potency of this line has earned the Penguins trio the nickname of the “HBK Line.” Michaels’ own nickname was often shortened down to “HBK” by fans and commentators when he wrestled. Knowing this, a Pittsburgh fan asked Michaels to give the Penguins his blessings, which he was only happy to oblige.

There’s always time to learn, and after Monday night’s fun, there’s a good chance Michaels’ name will come up again throughout this series.

The Lightning were leading the Penguins in their best-of-seven series 1-0 coming into Game 2.
