Calgary Flames forward Mikael Backlund will miss the next 4-6 weeks after suffering an upper-body injury, the team announced Monday.
In Calgary’s 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks Saturday, Backlund left the game following a fight with Canucks defenceman Andrew Alberts.
Backlund stepped in for teammate Blake Comeau, who was hit hard by Alberts while in a vulnerable position. The 22-year-old didn’t fare well in the fight and did not return to the game.
The Flames have yet to reveal the specific nature of the injury.
In 41 games this season Backlund has 11 points.
The Flames have been injury-plagued this season and currently have a number of players on injured reserve including Lee Stempniak and Blair Jones.
The Flames host the Toronto Maple Leafs Tuesday.
