Flames’ Gaudreau not playing in All-Star Game

A look at the NHL All-Star game from the beginnings of it being the cup champions vs the rest of the league, to its current, "fantasy draft" format and everything in between.

Calgary Flames rookie Johnny Gaudreau was rumoured to be taking one of the NHL All-Star roster spots opened up by injury on Friday, but reports of his inclusion were premature.

Gaudreau will not be playing in the All-Star Game.

Gaudreau was believed to be a replacement, along with Florida Panthers rookie Aaron Ekblad, for the spots vacated by Sidney Crosby and Erik Johnson. The 21-year-old is in Columbus to take part in the weekend’s skills competition.

Gaudreau has 13 goals and 35 points in 46 games with the Flames this season. He trails Filip Forsberg of the Nashville Predators in scoring among NHL rookies by five points.
