Calgary Flames defenceman Ladislav Smid left Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Wild and won’t return, with what is being called an upper-body injury.

With just over eight minutes remaining in the first period, Smid was hit hard into the board by Wild forward Jason Zucker.

Smid looked to be in some discomfort, but he made his way back to the Flames’ bench where he received treatment before leaving the game for good.

The 30-year-old has no points in 21 games this year, the third of a four-year $14-million contract.
