Calgary Flames forward Kris Versteeg left Thursday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes after being struck with the puck twice in the span of about 10 seconds.
The sequence of bad luck began midway through the first period when Versteeg blocked a quick shot from Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner shortly after the faceoff. He immediately went down and appeared to be in significant pain, grabbing his right knee while remaining down on the ice as the play continued. He was then struck again by another shot from Skinner, this time to the head or neck area.
The Hurricanes never lost possession of the puck, which is why the play did not stop once Versteeg went down initially. Versteeg needed to be helped off the ice, and has yet to return to the game.
