Panthers goalie coach Tallas dresses as backup

Roberto Luongo and Al Montoya both got injured in the Panthers' game against the Leafs, so goalie coach Robb Tallas put on the pads and prepared to play. Roberto Luongo eventually came back in to relieve Montoya.

Florida Panthers goalie coach Robb Tallas was forced to strap on the pads and act as the team’s backup netminder after Roberto Luongo left the game following the first period with an upper-body injury and Al Montoya suffered a lower-body injury early in the third.

The crazy thing about what happened Tuesday in South Florida was that it’s not the first time Tallas has been in this situation.

Tallas played six seasons in the NHL as a backup with the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks from 1995-2001. He hadn’t played pro hockey since the 2004-05 season that he spent with EC Red Bull Salzburg in an Austrian league.
