Flyers’ Gagner clears waivers, Streit activated from IR

Watch as Philadelphia Flyers forward Sam Gagner hits his face on the ice after taking a hit from Brad Malone of the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Philadelphia Flyers have loaned forward Sam Gagner to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL after he cleared waivers on Wednesday.

Injuries and ineffectiveness have limited Gagner to just five points (2G, 3A) in 18 games this year.

The Flyers traded for Gagner this off-season, sending Nicklas Grossmann and Chris Pronger’s contract to the Arizona Coyotes, while receiving Gagner and a conditional draft pick in return.

Gagner was drafted sixth overall in 2007 by the Edmonton Oilers.

The Flyers have also activated defenceman Mark Streit off injured reserve.

Streit hasn’t played since Nov. 12 after undergoing surgery to repair a pubic plate detachment.

The 38-year-old has nine points in 16 games this season, and has scored at least 40 points in every (full) NHL season since 2007-2008.

Shayne Gostisbehere, who has emerged with 14 points in 19 games since being called up on Nov. 14 is expected to stick around with the big club.
