Flyers sign Phil Varone to two-year contract

The Philadelphia Flyers select Winnipeg native Nolan Patrick from the Brandon Wheat Kings second overall at the 2017 NHL Draft.

The Philadephia Flyers have signed Phil Varone to a two-year, two-way contract on the opening day of Free Agency.

The 26-year-old centreman spent most of the 2016-17 season with Ottawa’s AHL affiliate in Binghamton, recording 15 goals and 36 assists in 65 games while also serving as alternate captain. He was called up to play seven games with Ottawa, but didn’t register a point.

Varone has played a total of 50 career NHL games, having also played for the Buffalo Sabres, and has five goals and five assists at the NHL level.
