Alex Semin will not be making an NHL comeback in 2016-17.
The talented forward was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. The Russian has chosen to remain in the KHL, re-signing with KHL-champion Magnitogorsk Metallurg for one season, according to multiple reports.

As a mid-season addition, Semin helped Magnitogorsk come from behind in a seven-game championship series and claim the 2016 Gagarin Cup — the franchise’s second in three years.
After the Carolina Hurricanes bought out Semin’s contract last summer, the Montreal Canadiens took a chance on the sniper as a free agent.
Semin, 32, never found his stride in Montreal, registering just one goal in 15 games, and the Canadiens terminated his contract in December.
A better fit with Metallurg, Semin scored five goals and 14 points in 20 regular-season games, then stood out in the post-season with seven goals and 15 points en route to the championship.
