Free-agent goalie Ellis signs with Capitals

ARLINGTON, Va. — Free-agent goalie Dan Ellis signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Washington Capitals.

The team announced the deal Saturday.

The 35-year-old Ellis went 4-3-1 with a 2.35 goals-against average in eight games with the Florida Panthers last season.

He has played in a total of 212 NHL games with six clubs, including Nashville under current Capitals coach Barry Trotz.
