Gerber follows Emery path to Russia

Martin Gerber battled Ray Emery for the No. 1 job in Ottawa two seasons ago, now he plans to fill the vacancy Emery left behind in Russia.

According to online reports, Gerber signed a one-year deal with Atlant Mytischi of the KHL in hopes of re-establishing himself as a No. 1 goaltender. Emery spent one season with Atlant Mytischi before returning to the NHL to sign in Philadelphia. Gerber was rumoured to be close to accepting the back up role in Pittsburgh, but instead opted for a regular game in Russia.

Gerber was bought out by the Ottawa Senators before the NHL trade deadline before being claimed off waivers by Toronto.
