Gotta See It: Auston Matthews shatters glass at Leafs camp

Auston Matthews discusses his first practice in Maple Leafs training camp, and says he and the entire team were shocked when his one-timer shattered the glass.

Fresh off an impressive performance at the World Cup of Hockey with Team North America, Auston Matthews hit the ice in blue and white on Wednesday as preparations ramp up for his rookie NHL season with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The No. 1 overall pick in June’s draft has already made a, uh, real impact at camp.

For proof, just take a look at this shattered glass panel, which was on the receiving end of one of Matthews’ shots.

The 19-year-old centreman surprised even himself when he demolished the panel with a one-timer.

“I don’t have the best one-timer, so when that happened I was shocked,” Matthews told reporters after practice. “I think everybody else on the ice was shocked too.”
