Gotta See It: 1995 NHLers try to name Beatles

Brendan-Shanahan;-The-Beatles;-NHL

Brendan Shanahan was such a Beatles nut growing up, he'd even listen to their records backwards. (YouTube)

This is a pretty fun video on a number of levels, the least of which is hey-let’s-laugh-at-these-athletes-who-don’t-know-their-musical-legends.

For one, we find out the NHL has a history of asking its players to name The Beatles that stretches back a minimum of 20 years. A 2015 version of the quiz made the rounds last week, but at least the game’s contemporary players have the excuse that John, Paul, George (who gets zero love) and Ringo were more important to an era they weren’t alive for.

For two, we learn that Hartford Whaler turned Toronto Maple Leafs president Brendan “Little Beatlemania Freak” Shanahan used to spin the Fab Four’s records backwards in search of hidden messages.

And perhaps best of all, we finally have an excuse to show a Mike Peluso clip in 2015.
