Gotta See It: How to solve Luongo

Gotta See It: Roberto Luongo hasn’t been an easy man to solve.

We’re speaking about on the ice, of course.

And Monday night, the Vancouver Canucks’ second of five meetings against the division rival Edmonton Oilers, was no different. Making his fourth consecutive start, the NHL’s third star of the week stopped 23 shots en route to another victory. Among the highlights: turning away a Taylor Hall penalty shot in overtime and stoning Jordan Eberle point-blank with less than nine minutes left.

But one Oiler found a way early.

Watch as Ales Hemsky gets on his horse (foreshadowing!) and gallops past defenceman Jason Garrison to reach a bouncing Nail Yakupov lead pass, then yanks on the reins and grows patient, taking his time to trot around Luongo and give his team the early 1-0 lead (later squandered, but still).

The goal was the 29-year-old Hemsky’s third of the year and second against Vancouver this season:

Anytime the Oilers bound out the gate against a stable western power such as Vancouver, the appropriate mode of celebration is to don a giant horse head, bang on the glass with your meaty human mitts and party like an inverse centaur at Rexall Place:
