U.S. Sergeant First Class Robert Vandenberg Jr. was deployed to Afghanistan nearly a year ago. Serving overseas, he has never met his newborn son, Travis, and has been absent from key childhood moments with his one-year-old son, Robert.

Vandenberg’s wife, Patricia, attended the Anaheim Ducks’ game versus the Edmonton Oilers Wednesday night at Honda Center, and the club arranged for her to Skype her husband over the Jumbotron during a break in play.
