Gotta See It: Seabrook’s super-swat stops goal

Chicago Blackhawks defenceman shows remarkable hand-eye coordination as he swats a dangerous puck out of midair to likely prevent a goal.

It’s usually the Chicago Blackhawks’ forwards that hog all the highlights — that Mariana Trench-deep group of guys with their dangerous dangles, silky spin-o-ramas and clutch one-timers.

But in Game 1 of the Presidents’ Trophy winners’ second-round series against their Original Six foes, the Detroit Red Wings, it was a ‘Hawks defenceman who came up with the night’s must-see play.

With Chicago leading 3-1 in the third period, the Red Wings finally woke up and started creating chances at Corey Crawford’s end of the rink.

Rookie Damien Brunner swatted a puck that beat Crawford, but dinged off the crossbar and fluttered down, destined to trickle across the goal line and make it a one-goal game.

Stealthily to the rescue, Chicago’s Brent Seabrook swoops in behind Crawford and swats away the puck out of midair before it has a chance to bounce in, robbing Brunner of his fourth goal of the postseason and saving his team from a nail-biting finish.

This, kids, is what they mean by hand-eye coordination.
