If Corey Perry doesn’t snag a spot on Team Canada’s right wing, there might be just cause for outrage.
On Monday night Perry potted a pair to become the first Team Canada hopeful to reach the 20-goal mark, extending his career-high goal-scoring streak to six games in yet another Honda Center victory for the Anaheim Ducks.
Perry’s first goal of the night was about as good as it gets. You’ll see this highlight more than once.
Hopping out of the penalty box, Perry gets the puck with a head of steam, dangles around newbie Calvin de Haan, gets tripped up yet still gains control of the puck and zips it past New York Islanders goaltender Anders Nilsson. Oh, yeah: Only 1.7 seconds remained in the second period.
Perry’s linemate, captain Ryan Getzlaf, also stretched his point streak to 12 games in the Ducks’ 5-2 come-from-behind win over the flailing Isles.
To not pair Getzlaf and Perry in Sochi would be foolish. And Steve Yzerman is no fool.
