Gotta See It: Lehtonen’s Save of Year bid

Gotta See It: Jack Johnson believed he had scored his first goal of the season. Vinny Prospal raised both arms in celebration.

But both Columbus Blue Jackets were mistakenly happy.

For Dallas Stars netminder Kari Lehtonen had made like Stretch Armstrong and stretched his glove behind his back to a contortionist’s degree to snatch the fluttering puck backhanded just before it crossed the goal line.

Though the Jackets would end up winning the contest 2-1 in overtime, Lehtonen’s 25 saves – this one in particular – kept the Stars close. All six of Dallas’s games have been decided by a single goal.

Had Lehtonen not made this save, Dallas likely would not have salvaged a standings point.
