Gotta See It: One good turn deserves another.
Watch as the Edmonton Oilers recover from an odd and awful bounce to score on the very same shift.
With the Los Angeles Kings up 1-zip in the second period and trying to kill a two-man advantage for the Oilers, defenceman Drew Doughty blasts the puck out of the Kings’ zone and down the ice.
A routine clear turns dangerous, however, when the puck takes a sharp, unpredictable bounce off the boards and veers directly towards the Oilers’ net.
Edmonton Oilers goalie Nikolai Khabibulin – who stopped 35 shots in a rare start – was heading behind the net to play the dump-in but is forced to dive back towards the crease to make a desperate stick save. He does.
Mere seconds after Khabibulin bails out his club, Edmonton rushes back down the ice and Sam Gagner beats a screened Jonathan Quick to knot the game at one.
Although the Oilers would lose the game 3-1, the 40-year-old Khabibulin played well in just his second start of the season. In limited action, the veteran has a 1.91 goals-against average and .940 save percentage this season.
NASTY save by Khabibulin leads to a great goal by Gagner. Great stuff. #Oilers
