Winger Viktor Stalberg was acquired in the off-season by the Nashville Predators to bolster the club’s anemic offence. This is a guy who scored 22 goals for the Chicago Blackhawks in 2011-12.
Unfortunately for the Preds, who rank 27th in goals per game, Stalberg has yet to register a point in seven games with his new club and has been healthy-scratched by head coach Barry Trotz.
Back in the lineup on Thursday night, however, the Swede accomplished the equivalent by robbing Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan of a sure thing.
Watch above as a back-checking Stalberg makes a great defensive play, pulling the puck off the goal line before it can trickle in to tie the game. If your offensive game isn’t working, find another way to contribute.
Sadly for the Preds, the Coyotes would eventually tie the game and best Nashville in the skills competition to take the 5-4 shootout victory.
