Gotta See It: Phil Kessel takes Stanley Cup to SickKids

Phil Kessel followed through on his promise to bring the Stanley Cup to Toronto, stopping to visit Sick Kids Hospital to pose for pictures.

The Stanley Cup made its way to Toronto on Monday as part of Pittsburgh Penguins forward Phil Kessel’s day to celebrate his team’s championship victory.

Kessel’s day with the Cup in Toronto did not include any sort of public viewing, but the former Toronto Maple Leafs sniper paid a visit to The Hospital for Sick Children to celebrate with some old friends.

Kessel was often involved with SickKids during his tenure with the Leafs, visiting patients and donating a portion of proceeds from his hockey camp to the hospital. The 28-year-old also teamed up with PokerStars.net to donate $30,000 to SickKids in January 2014.

At least one former Maple Leafs teammate will be on hand to celebrate with Kessel. Dion Phaneuf posted a photo to Instagram of himself and his wife Elisha Cuthbert announcing their impending arrival to whatever Kessel has planned in his former NHL home.

Kessel’s 24 hours with the Cup kicked off in his native city of Madison, Wisconsin. His sister, Olympian and National Women’s Hockey League star Amanda Kessel, was not shy about sipping from Lord Stanley’s Mug.

Kessel spent six seasons with the Maple Leafs before he was traded to the Penguins in July 2015. He totalled 10 goals and 22 points in 24 games to lead the Penguins in post-season scoring.
